Root Canal Treatment - Cost

Root canal treatment costs vary according to the tooth being treated, number of canals, case complexity, dentist or specialist fees, and country of treatment. Front teeth generally have fewer canals and may cost less than molars.

Molars often require more time, advanced imaging, magnification, and specialist expertise because they can contain several complex canals. Retreatment is usually more expensive than initial treatment because old filling materials must be removed and previous complications addressed.

Additional costs may include dental X-rays, cone beam computed tomography, emergency drainage, medication, temporary fillings, core buildup, post placement, and the final crown.

The total cost should be evaluated together with the price of the permanent restoration. A root canal-treated tooth that is not sealed and protected properly may fracture or become reinfected.

Alternative treatment may involve extraction followed by a bridge, implant, or removable prosthesis. Although extraction may initially cost less, replacing the missing tooth can increase the overall expense.

Patients should request a complete treatment plan showing both endodontic and restorative fees.
